Haslet Public Library

The Haslet Public Library provides library services for life-long learning, cultural enrichment, information and recreation for the citizens of the Haslet community; assures equal access to information; is responsive to the public library needs of the community; and provides a gathering place for area residents.

Open six days a week, Monday through Saturday, the library is open to all of Texas.  We will issue cards to any Texas State resident who can provide proof of current address.

Memorial Day Closure
The library will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day.
Summer Reading Club
The 2013 Summer Reading Club will begin on June 10th.  Programs will be held for toddlers, preschoolers and elementary school-aged children on Wednesdays throughout the months of June and July.

Haslet Public Library's online catalog may be accessed by clicking on this link: http://haslet.booksys.net/opac/haslet/index.html. To place items on reserve or access your account, log in with your library card number and PIN number. If you do not have a PIN number or have forgotten your PIN contact the library at 817-439-4278 ext. 201.

North Texas Libraries on the Go
North Texas Libraries on the Go is a consortium of public libraries joined together to provide eBooks and downloadable audio books through OverDrive, Inc. to participating libraries. North Texas Libraries on the Go may be accessed by clicking on http://www.ntexlibrariesonthego.org.

What You Need:
  • An Internet connection via PC, Mac, or select mobile devices.
  • A valid library card.
  • Free, required software available at the North Texas Libraries on the Go website. For audiobooks, download the Overdrive Media Console. For PDF and EPUB eBooks on PC, Mac and many eBook devices, download Adobe Digital Editions.
How It Works:
Step 1: Browse
1. Browse the library's website at http://www.ntexlibrariesonthego.org.
2. Search by title, author, subject, or format.

Step 2: Check Out
1. Add selections to your "Cart". Note: If a title is not available, you may place a hold. You'll receive an email when the title is available.
2. Click on the "Proceed to Checkout" link. Note: There is a limit of three items per checkout.

Step 3: Download ... enjoy!
1. Click "Get for Kindle" or "Download" to enjoy your title.
2. Once downloaded, enjoy on a variety of devices, including Kindle, iPod, and others.

Titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period. There are no late fees!

Enjoy on-the-go
After checkout, most titles can be read on a mobile device such as a Kindle, iPod, or Sony Reader.
1. For eReader devices: Open Adobe Digital Editions and drag and drop the title onto the device name on the left panel. After the transfer is complete, you may disconnect your device and enjoy your title on the go.
2. For audio: Open the OverDrive Media Console, select your title and click "Transfer" to launch the Transfer Wizard. Follow the prompts to complete the transfer process.
3. For Kindle: Click "Get for Kindle" to retrieve your download from Amazon.com. Select the Kindle or Kindle reading app in which to deliver the title.

Burn to CD
After download, many audio titles can be burned to CD. First insert your CD, then:
1. Click the "Burn" button in OverDrive Media Console to launch the Burn Wizard.
2. Select the part you wish to burn. When the burn process is complete, you may enjoy your title on the go.

TexShare Databases
TexShare databases are exclusive online resources for genealogy, business, health, homework, and other research needs. The TexShare databases are a program of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. To access the databases click on the following link: http://www.libraryoftexas.org/texshare. You will need a login and password available at the library. Due to copyright restrictions, library patrons must visit the library to receive the login and password.
Check Out Period

Loan time for all materials is two weeks. Materials may be renewed one time, unless there is a reserve. Check out is limited to 23 items: 20 each of books, magazines or audios, 3 videos or DVDs. Items placed on reserve will be held for one week.

Fines and Fees

Overdue items
.25 per day, per item
Maximum fine: $5 per item

Fines are not charged for days the library is closed.  Accumulated fines of $5 or more will result in loss of library privileges until paid.  Borrowers are responsible for paying for lost or damaged items.

Friends of the Haslet Public Library

The Friends of the Haslet Public Library is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support Haslet Public Library. Through membership dues, fundraising and grants, the group has helped pay for the following:

• Books and other library materials
• Programs
• Equipment

Please consider a basic membership for the year 2013 at $10 to support the Friends and the library. We welcome your participation at any level.  Visit the Friends' website at http://hasletlibraryfriends.org for more information.

Donations
We gratefully accept donations of new and used books, books on CD, and DVDs during operating hours.  Items will either be added to the collection or saved for a future book sale.  A receipt will be issued if requested.   Due to space restraints, please limit donations to one box per visit.  Magazines, textbooks, Readers Digest condensed books, and encyclopedias are not accepted.

HASLET LIBRARY WINS GRANT

HASLET LIBRARY WINS GRANT

The Haslet Public Library was only one of four libraries in the state to win the         J. Frank Dobie Trust Grant this year.

J. Frank Dobie Library Trust Awards are monetary awards given each spring to library applicants selected by the Award Committee.  The number and amount of awards depend on net income produced by the Trust.  At Mr. Dobie's request, announcement of the awards is made at the annual meeting of the Texas Library Association.

According to the terms of the Trust, funds awarded may be used solely for the purchase of books.  Note: books which have been reformatted for ease of use, i.e., books in electronic format, are eligible.

Application is open to public libraries in Texas which:

Serve a population of 20,000 or less,Are legally established,Are open at least 20 hours per week.

Haslet Library Director Jennifer Brown received the news during a luncheon at the Annual Texas Library Association Conference this past April.

"I found out that Haslet was only one of four libraries in the state to win the grant.  When Mr. Stewart handed me the check, my mouth dropped open.  We were given $8000.00!"
